Buenos Aires, one of the main tourist cities in Latin America, has a wide gastronomic offer with options for all tastes. Tourists visiting Buenos Aires will be able to enjoy everything from Food Trucks, with food on the go, to multi-award-winning restaurants or chefs with Michelin stars.
Although we will find a wide variety of restaurants throughout the city, we could say that the main areas to take a gastronomic tour are the Palermo neighborhood, where our hostels are located, and the Puerto Madero neighborhood, just a few minutes from our hostels.
As we mentioned before, the offer is wide and for all tastes, but if we talk about Argentina and tourists, the typical barbecue is the winner.
In the neighborhood of Palermo there are plenty of “Parrillas” of all levels, you can even find “Parrillas” like “Don Julio”, chosen as one of the 15 best restaurants in the world in the world ranking The World’s 50 Best Restaurants (we recommend booking with much anticipation).
What do you have to know if you are going to eat barbecue in Argentina.
To have the complete experience, we recommend starting with an appetizer that can be Chorizo, black pudding and provoleta, you can also opt for a empanada criolla, then select a cut of meat, the typical ones in these restaurants are “vacio”, “tira de asado”, “entraña” and “bife de chorizo”. The most common cooking points are medium rare, medium and well done. To accompany, it can be salad or French fries. We also recommend trying the criolla sauce and chimichurri.
Not everything is Asado in Buenos Aires.
Although the Argentine Asado is one of the highly recommended, if you are in Argentina you should also try the empanadas, milanesas, guiso de lentejas, locro and typical Argentine-style pizzerias.
If you prefer more international options, in Buenos Aires you will find everything. However, fusion food restaurants, Sushi, Italian food, Spanish food, American food, hamburgers and much more!
